REQUIREMENTS

15 years old

Requirements to obtain an Instructional Permit / Learners Permit: 

         1. Certificate of Enrollment (usually from school)

         2. Pass the written test at the DDS location (please click here for the FREE practice test)  

16-17 years old

Requirements to obtain a Provisional Driver's License (Class D):

       3. ​ADAP Certificate (from school). If home-schooled, please click here to take the eADAP online class.

​

       4. Upon completion of steps 1-3 and 1 year and 1 day later, 6 hours behind-the-wheel driving lesson and online Driver's Ed (Joshua's Law) can be taken followed by a road test at any DDS location.*

Note: When turning 18, holders of the "restricted" Class D License can upgrade to "unrestricted" License Class C using DDS Online Services or the DDS 2 GO Mobile App.

18+ years old

Requirements to obtain a Class C License:

​

  • Pass a Knowledge Test (taken in-person at the DDS location). Click here for the DDS practice test.

  • 6 hours behind-the-wheel*

  • Pass the Road Test (at the DDS location)

  • Be prepared to bring the required identification documents on the day of your road test

  • Pay $32 license fee (at the DDS location)
